Activities to Encourage the Use of Vision


Exercises for hand-eye coordination

  • Dot-to dot patterns, start with dots 1cm apart up to 4 cm apart
    • can they find the dots?
    • Can they join them? If they join them in the right sequence a shape is created, e.g. a triangle
  • Pictures, e.g., following numbers 1 to 2 to 3.... to 50.
    By drawing in the right order, a picture will emerge, e.g. an elephant
  • Dark wavy line- let the child trace over the line with a finger
  • Draw lines -use a finger between a pattern made of 2 parallel lines

Exercises for matching, counting, memory and sequencing of colours, figures and numbers

  • Rows with the same pictures - all but 2 have different sizes or colours, find the ones of the same size or colour
  • Rows of numbers with one number different; circle the odd one out.
    Start with size about 1cm.

    Example

    Numbers 4 4 4 7 4 4  can look very similar
