Introduction

A person with low vision not only gets sound, smell, tactual information, but also visual cues which are often incomplete or blurred.

Clinical and functional low vision assessment is needed before developing an O&M programme

Most commonly reported problems:
  • changes in light levels
  • night travel
  • depth perception
  • glare
  • recognising faces and objects
  • unfamiliar areas
  • poor contrast
  • crowded situations
  • visually complex environments (e.g. supermarkets)
Night travel can be difficult for people with low vision
